Technical Support Questions

I downloaded Columns UI, but I don't know what do do with a .7z file ?!

The file is an archive created by 7-Zip. Most popular archivers can extract it, including WinRAR.

If you use Total Commander, you can have it treat 7-Zip archives like folders with the 7-Zip Total Commander Plugin.

As with any foobar components you need to place the *.dll files in the components folder of your foobar2000 folder.

I installed the plugin, but my foobar still looks the same.

Please check that you have selected Columns UI as the active user interface module. See the Installation section for more details:

What do I do with an fcs file?

From the Columns UI page in preferences, goto the Other tab, and select “Import”. Alternatively, you can open them from the command-line. From 0.1.2 beta 4, the format is foobar2000 /columnsui:import:<path>. You can use this to associate fcs files with foobar (foobar2000.exe /columnsui:import:“%1”).

How do I load png files for the toolbar buttons?

You need the current versions of libpng and zlib in your foobar2000 folder. Unofficial MSVC6 compiled binaries can also be obtained here.

I changed my buttons to some PNGs. But they disappear next time I start foobar2000??

Make sure you put the libpng13.dll and zlib1.dll files in your foobar2000 directory, not the components directory.

I disabled all the sidebar panel captions, but now I cant add panels!!

If you have more than one panel, you can right click on the separator between them to bring up the add/remove menu. Otherwise, you will have to hit the 'Reset Sidebar' button in sidebar preferences.

I hid the toolbars, now how do I get them back ?!

You can do this from the main preferences page in several possible ways:

  • The default keyboard shortcut to bring up the preferences is CTRL-P.
  • You can bring up the preferences from the notification icon if you have one.
  • As a last fail-safe resort, the command-line command foobar2000 /config will bring up the preferences.

I installed panel x, but it is not listed as a panel within foobar2000?

Most likely it was created for an older version of Columns UI, or you have an old version of Columns UI. Updating your components will usually suffice.

I changed one of the button images in the toolbars. Now all the others have disappeared??

All images must have the same dimensions. See buttons for more information.

How do I get my playlist tabs back?

For the default configuration:

  1. Start foobar2000 and enter the preferences.
  2. From the Columns UI page, activate the Layout tab.
  3. Right click the base item, “Columns Playlist”.
  4. Select the “Change base/Splitter/Playlist tabs” item.
  5. Right click the new “Playlist tabs” base item.
  6. Select “Insert panel/Playlist views/Columns playlist”
  7. Close preferences or click “Apply”.

In 0.1.3 beta 1, you can select the menu item View/Layout/Playlist tabs to activate the default playlist tabs layout.

0.1.3 beta 1 questions

What happened to the sidebar?!

It was removed. The new layout system replaces it. See the screen shot to the right to understand how something equivalent is obtained from the layout system. The layout pictured is based off a modified default configuration. The first “Vertical splitter” represents the equivalent of the sidebar. Note it is locked, and is contained in a horizontal splitter. To add panels inside it, right click on the “Vertical splitter” item.

0.1.2 questions

How do I get panels above the playlist?

You can add panels with a configurable minimum height to the toolbar area by first enabling the “List all toolbars” in Prefs/Columns UI/Other. Then, you can insert the panel as a toolbar. You will have to then adjust the panel's minimum height in its configuration. As you can imagine this is a bit of a hack; it will not be necessary in version 0.1.3.

I don't see bars mode in the visualisation context menu??

Ensure you are running Columns UI 0.1.2 final or newer.

I installed panel x, but it is not listed in the sidebar menu?

Most likely it was created for an older version of Columns UI, or you have an old version of Columns UI. Updating your components will usually suffice, you can use the UI extension scannertool for further investigation.
